# How do I get my first lead?

Run a manual audit from the Dashboard against any URL — that one action creates your first lead in under 60 seconds. From there, install the widget for passive capture or upload a CSV to the Bulk Scanner for active prospecting.

## What "a lead" means in LemAudit

A lead is one row in your pipeline that ties together a website URL, a contact email, an audit score, and an activity timeline. LemAudit creates a lead every time an audit runs, whether you triggered it or a visitor did. There is no separate "import contacts" flow because every contact comes attached to a real audit.

Think of leads like inbound trial signups, except each one already came with a free diagnostic of their problem.

## How LemAudit captures them

There are 3 capture paths, in increasing order of effort:

1. **Manual audit** — Type a URL into the Dashboard search box and press enter. The audit runs in 12–25 seconds and a new lead row appears.
2. **Widget** — Paste the [embed script](/help/getting-started/how-do-i-install-the-audit-widget-on-my-website) on your site. Visitors enter their URL and email; LemAudit captures both as a lead.
3. **Bulk Scanner** — Upload a CSV of up to 50 domains; the [scanner](/help/advanced/how-does-the-bulk-scanner-work) creates 1 lead per row.

All 3 paths write into the same leads table, so the [pipeline view](/help/leads/how-does-the-lead-pipeline-work) treats them identically.

## Worked example

A new agency on the Growth plan signed up at 10am. By 10:02am they ran a manual audit on a local plumber site scoring 47/100 — first lead. By 10:30am the widget was live on their homepage. By end of day they had 6 leads: 1 manual, 2 widget, 3 from a 25-row bulk scan of competitors' clients.

## When this isn't right

Manual audits work well for testing but do not scale past 5–10/day. If you have a niche prospect list ready, the [Bulk Scanner](/help/advanced/how-does-the-bulk-scanner-work) is faster. If you have website traffic but no list, the widget compounds over weeks. Cold email tools like Apollo are a better fit when you need a leads-only flow with no audit attached.
